Common Chord was formed in 2012, in an effort to address the continuing needs of inmates in
Pennsylvania. We hope to continue growing and expanding in the future
through your help...….and our hard work
The “Common Chord Curriculum”
We select and critically examine numerous books for inmates,
both from direct donations and the proceeds from our book sales which:
1) help them facilitate their personal growth and
2) present new paths for them to follow.

Your tax deductible book donations are not only enthusiastically welcomed by us,
but are carefully considered for the potential impact that they might make in the future lives of prisoners. We believe that "choices change lives"
Some topics we also focus on include, but are certainly not limited to:
Also emphasized in our screening process are books related to biographies, history, science, current events, and a number of other titles designed to help people to explore new ideas. We are continually developing this curriculum as we continue to fine tune our efforts in this valuable mission.
We are especially concerned with contributing to the emotional well being of inmates,
a deepening need due to the cutbacks in mental health services in most of our penal institutions. New ways are being explored through consultations with
psychiatric professionals in the selection of titles that will improve the effectiveness of Common Chord's mission. By awakening readers to the prospect of change, both in themselves and in their views of the world, we seek to inspire them to consider their true and previously unknown potential. In brief, we try to be the guiding hands that will open new doors for prisoners to make better life choices.
